RustDesk uses cryptographically generated device IDs for security. Each device gets a unique ID automatically generated from its key pair.
Important:
- IDs are generated automatically and cannot be manually changed
- IDs are unique to each device based on its cryptographic signature
- To customize naming, use the Display Name feature in RustDesk
- Custom IDs (memorable names) require RustDesk Pro/Enterprise version
To make devices easier to identify:
1. Open RustDesk and go to Settings
2. Find Display Name or Device Name option
3. Enter a memorable name (e.g., Alice's Laptop, Office PC 01)
4. This name will be shown when connecting to this device
5. Copy the Device ID (the numeric code) to share with others
Enter the remote device's numeric ID and click Connect. Accept the connection on the remote device when prompted.
Tip: Add contacts with their display names in RustDesk for easier access!
